KEN SARO-WIWA PRIZE FOR BOOK REVIEW 2016 – call for entries

labafIn continuation of a legacy project that the Committee for Relevant Art, CORA, promoters of the annual Lagos Book & Art Festival , LABAF, launched last year, we hereby call for submission of entries in respect of the annual KEN SARO-WIWA PRIZE FOR BOOK REVIEW 2016.
The project is designed to further a key objective of the LABAF— deepening the culture of reading and engagement of content of Literary works, particularly fiction and drama.
This year’s LABAF is dedicated to honouring the illustrious career of the eminent playwright, PROFESSOR FEMI OSOFISAN. Thus our focus for the competition is to bring greater attention to his work, especially those that address cogent and relevant issues in the socio-political and cultural affairs of our nation, and the continent.

To qualify the contestant must have read and written reviews on any TWO of the following four Books of the Festival’s Special Guest of Honour:
i. Once Upon Four Robbers;
ii. Farewell to a Cannibal Rage;
iii. Midnight Hotel;
iv. Chattering and the Songs

NB: The review of the three texts can be contained in one extended review or sent as two separate reviews.
The competition is particularly targeted at students of humanities, and as well as lovers of the written text.

PRIZE:
The sum of N100,000 is to be won. The winning review would be published widely in the media and in reputable journals on Literature.

A shortlist of THREE finalists will be announced on THURSDAY November 10 while the winner will be announced on Saturday November 12, 2016 during the festival’s Party at which the Festival Special Guest of Honour, Professor Osofisan will be present.
