THE PLAN | by Mike Murphy

The aliens, 1 and 2, spoke as their ship hurtled towards the unfortunate world that was their destination.

“Invasion?” asked 2.

“Affirmative,” answered 1.

“When?” inquired 2.

“Soon.”

“Objective?”

“Colonization.”

“Us?”

“Yes,” answered 1.

“Everyone?” 2 queried.

“Everyone.”

Difficult.”

“Agreed.”

“Why?”

“Climate,” said 1.

“Temperate?” his companion asked hopefully.

“Yes.”

“Cold?”

“Sometimes.”

“Hot?”

“Occasionally.”

“Remarkable!” added 2.

“Novel,” agreed 1.

“Resources?”

“Abundant.”

“Food.”

“Plentiful.”

“Population?”

Billions,” confirmed 1.

“Resistance?” 2 asked 1.

“Ineffective.”

“Survivors?”

“Likely.”

“Many?”

“Few.”

“Purpose?” 2 asked.

“Undecided,” 1 responded.

“Slaves?” 2 suggested.

“Preference?”

“Yes.”

“Granted.” 1 pressed a button on the panel before them. A view screen showing a celestial scene flickered on.

“Where?” asked 2.

There,” 1 answered, pressing down and bringing up an image of the world.

2 considered the planet’s location. “Remote,” he said.

“Definitely,” 1 agreed.

“Alliances?”

“None.”

2 was surprised. “Solitary?”

“Yes,” 1 said.

“Amazing.”

“Unwise.”

“Detection?”

“Satellites.”

“Problem?” asked 2.

“None,” 1 assured him.

2 was anxious for the battle. “Anticipation,” he said.

“Likewise,” 1 agreed.

“Armada?”

“Unnecessary.”

“Ships?”

“One.”

One?” a surprised 2 asked.

“Sufficient,” 1 declared.

“Certain?”

“Positive.”

“Commander?” asked 2.

“You,” 1 declared.

“Flattered,” uttered 2.

“Qualified,” 1 praised him.

“Grateful.”

“Orders?”

“Mobilization,” 2 said after brief thought.

“Acknowledged,” answered 1.

“Immediate.”

“Mercy?”

None.”

“Gladly,” 1 said, cracking an alien smile.
