Meditation | by Mare Leonard

Can’t let go  can’t say

noticingmoveon

I focus on a photo

Blocks of red yellow blue

In center a bold cobalt spot

Nothing that designed

Not a kid’s Lego tower

Set into  grooves

A makeshift avocado shed

Open thousands of green

Spheres swarm like locusts

Around my head  like the news

2 kids killed in Kentucky

11th school shooting of this year

Mare Leonard lives in an old school house overlooking The Rondout Creek. Away from her own personal blackboard, she teaches  through the Institute for Writing and Thinking and the MAT program at Bard College.  She has published four chapbooks of poetry and was a finalist in last year’s NY State Di Biase contest.  Some of her latest publications appear in the Vietnam poetry publication from Perfume River, Rats Ass Review, Figroot, Sweet Tree, Eunoia, New Verse News and in the British publication: Journal of Arts&Letters. She is most excited about her poem Terrone, an immigration poem, which will be published in the spring at Chiron http://www.mareleonard.com

Great work, Mare! And did you take this incredible photo that accompanies your powerful poem? A perfect accompaniment.
